You are now ready to add your products to your Shopify store. This is, without a doubt, one of the most important processes to create your online business! However, before adding them to the platform and publishing them, you should make sure to create a clear descriptive structure so that your store is more attractive and your products sell better.
For each product you need the following elements:
Product title and description
Size and weight
Why are these items necessary?
Because this information will make it easier to add your products to the platform, which I will explain in the next section, and it is also an essential part of the process that guarantees that your store is consistent and attractive to your customers. But the involvement of these elements must be combined with the best Shopify mobile app marketing strategies like these.
What do you need before publishing your products?
Title and description
They are two of the most important elements because they move the customer to seek more information about the product and, by clicking on the link, possibly execute the purchase. The title should be descriptive and, depending on the theme chosen for your store (more on this in the next section of this guide), the platform allows you both a short and a longer description. Generally, a basic description works very well, but it should always give some detail of the product.
When writing the description:
Avoid block texts because people tend to look at details from a bird’s eye view, I always recommend turning the description into bullets, as it is much more effective and specific.
Show benefits over features. Describing the products is not the same as explaining how you solve the customer’s problem or what experience they will have with that product. That is the way in which people identify the products they want to buy. It is not the same to say that with a smartphone you can take photos than to say that with that phone if you are going to have all the photos of your family in one place. It’s all about the experience! Create a story. It shows a different way of talking to people and when they start reading that story, it’s easier for them to identify that this is the product they are looking for.
You can include one or more photographs and variations of these. For example, if you sell shirts and you have them in different colors and sizes, you can include these photographs on the platform so that people see the selection change when changing the image. Photo size limit is 20 megabytes per photo.
You need to set the price of your product and, within this element, you have three possibilities: the regular price of the product, the special price and the cost of the product. Including all three options will allow you to access the analytics and see the real profit from your sales, which is much more effective.
This includes the different variants of your products, let’s say the sizes, colors and other characteristics within the same type of product. Here you can also identify if there is a difference in cost, so that when the customer chooses a product within these variations, it automatically presents not only the characteristics he is looking for, but also the correct price.
For example, the small size shirt has a cost, possibly the size 2X shirt, which is larger and uses more fabric in its manufacture, has a difference of several dollars. The platform is responsible for making the change when the person makes the selection.
Size and weight
Refers to shipping packaging. Knowing that size in advance will help you calculate the cost of shipping. The system does that calculation automatically. Shopify handles shipments using a weight per dimension formula, that is, a shipment volume calculation based on its dimensions. Definitely, a pound of artisan soaps is not going to use the same packaging as the equivalent of a pound in decorative ribbons, but, don’t worry! To do this, you can use one of the many calculators available on the networks that tell you exactly the weight.
In the inventory you can include the SKU (Stock Keeping Unit), which is this unique nomenclature to identify your product to identify the product. There are also products that already have a barcode with a serial number that you can scan and enter directly on the platform.
You can purchase the barcode structure for a product, or a series of barcodes for your company, which is more convenient. Costs can vary, but the indisputable advantage is that barcodes are global structures and, once they are uploaded to the cloud, they represent your product throughout the world. If you are going to sell your products to companies like Amazon and Walmart, barcodes are required.
What else can you do to highlight your products?
You can include testimonials, comment on the product construction process, or include photos that show an interesting aspect of your product. It is also recommended to use other ecommerce solutions for Shopify, such as those offered by Multi-Programming Solutions, a software developer capable of combining multiple technologies in one project. This will certainly increase your sales efficiency.
When there is a powerful story, the customer identifies and makes the purchase because he identifies with the product. When this happens, people are willing to pay more for it.
