Discord Fatal Javascript Error | [ 6 Quick Fixes ]

Are you facing ” Discord Fatal Javascript Error“? Discord is one of the famous instant messaging app among gamers. But sometimes discord acts strangely by giving different errors like no route   error while connecting via voice chat and sometimes discord javascript error with message like “A fatal javascript error occurred”

or “A JavaScript error occurred in the main process”.

As you can see in the above screenshot about the discord javascript error, the reason for the error is mentioned. But not all people belong to the technical background of computers so it’s kind of hard to understand what is written there.

Causes for Discord Fatal Javascript Error

The specific reason for the Javascript error in your Discord may be any one of the following. Though there are many reasons asides from the ones mentioned below.

1. There is some misconfiguration in the Discord app.
2. Discord is set to run as Administrative
3. There is some issues with the Windows Audio Video Experience service
4. There are some unwanted files in the AppData

Solutions for Discord Fatal Javascript Error 

Like our old articles, we will mention different methods to solve the problem. Follow the solution one by one and by the end of this article, your error will be fixed.

Note: This article is for window 10 users, if you are using other versions of windows the steps are similar just follow it.

Solution 1: Restart your Computer

The computer is also like a human being. Imagine how active you can become after asleep even if the sleep is for 10minutes. So to solve any of the computer problems the first step is restarting the computer.

Restart the computer and check either the problem is solved or not. If the problem is not solved and you are still getting the javascript error then continue to another process mentioned below.

Solution 2: Close all the Discord Processes

Although you have closed the discord application there may be a different background process for discord that is running in your device. So before moving into the article to solve the discord javascript error make sure that everything about the discord is closed, even the background tasks. If you are not sure how this is done, follow the steps below to close the discord.

1. Right-click on the taskbar at the bottom of the screen and select “Task Manager”

   

2. Once on the task manager search for all the applications and processes mentioned “Discord” and close them all.

Once you have closed all the Discord processes follow the next step to solve the javascript error.

Solution 3: Delete Discord’s Temporary Files 

When you open or edit something in the Discord app every data is stored in AppData and LocalAppData. If you messed up something in Discord as a result it is giving Java Script error, then you can delete the Data/ Cache from AppData which will restore the Discord to its initial settings removing all the misconfigured files.

To delete the AppData and LocalAppData follow the steps:

1. Open the “My Computer” in your desktop and go to “Local Disk C” (Default disk where you have installed your windows.)

   

2. Once you are on Local Disk C. Go to “Users” then “YourUsername” (The username that you have put while setting up the computer) and then “AppData”
   Note: You must enable “Show Hidden Files” in your file manager. If you are not sure how this is done check the alternative method below.

Alternately you can also open the AppData by:

1. Type Control + R in keyboard to open run dialogue.
2. Then type “%appdata%”

   

Following any of the methods above you should have opened the AppData screen with different file names. From the file, name search for “Discord” and delete the file to solve the javascript error.

Once you have deleted all of the Discord files from AppData it’s time to delete the files from LocalAppData. To do so follow the steps.

1. Type Control + R in keyboard to open run dialogue.
2. Then type “%Localappdata%“
3. Once you have opened the LocalAppData locate the folder name Discord and delete it.

Deleting the LocalData file is proven to be one of the most efficient ways to solve the Discord Javascript Error. This method has worked for almost 70% of the people facing this error. Hope this has helped you and your problem is solved.

If this method has not solved your problem continue to another process to solve the problem.

Solution 4: Whitelist the Discord Application

Like the No Route error in the Discord Voice channel, Discord Javascript error can also be caused by the antivirus. So, you have to whitelist the application from your antivirus. As mentioned in our previous post the method to whitelist the application is different in different antivirus. So to whitelist the application you can check the documentation of the respective antivirus or comment down below we will be more than happy to help you with your problems.

If you are not using any third-party antivirus then you can follow this method to whitelist the discord application in Windows Defender.

After whitelisting the discord application you should no longer see the javascript error. But if it still doesn’t solve your problem then follow another process to solve the problem.

Solution 5: Change Windows Audio Video Experience services settings

Window Audio Video Experience service must be enabled to run the Discord properly. In default it is set to Manual, we can change it to Automatic if we are facing the javascript error. Changing it to Automatic not only fix the Discord Javascript error but also fixes the javascript error for other programs as well. So, to change it follow the steps carefully:

1. Type Control + R in keyboard to open run dialogue.
2. Then type “services.MSc” and hit Enter

   

3. There you can see lots of services. Scroll Down and right click on “Quality Window Audio Video Experience” then click on properties.

   

4. And in the startup type change Manual to Automatic.

   

5. Then click on “Start” below the Service status and click on “Apply”
6. Once you have clicked on Apply restart your computer.

That’s all now your javascript error should be fixed. If still the problem is not fixed then you can try reinstalling the application.

Solution 6: Reinstall the application

If none of the above-mentioned methods has worked for you to solve the Discord Javascript error then, the last option is reinstalling the Discord application. First, you have to uninstall the application from the Control panel and delete all the LocalAppData and AppData as mentioned above. Then restart your computer and install the Discord app again.
